ABOUT

This is a place for uncomfortable little futures.

New Orbit Magazine is a medium for writers to share and readers to speculate on the endless possibilities that lie in our futures. It is a place to experience deep, meaningful concepts; compelling, cautionary stories that will evoke a personal feeling of discomfort or introspection in a reader by invoking speculation about one’s place in the future. These stories cross all genres, come from writers of all walks of life, and are hand-picked to challenge your perceptions and perspectives about a comfortable future.

We love and encourage active input from every one of our readers. We want to hear your thoughts on our future or on the things you have read in New Orbit Magazine, whether you’re a storyteller or not. Please email us your thoughts underneath our submissions form, leave comments on our Facebook page, tag us on Twitter, or even send an Instagram message, to get in contact with us. Several pages of every issue are dedicated to printing some of those comments, so the world can hear your thoughts.

Every year we release a special issue, one issue of the magazine collected around a particular problem or theme. This issue comes not only with the world’s stories, but also could include words from experts, people in the emerging field, scholarly articles, diagrams, and ways to get involved or make a change. These issues can be anything from the result of cavalier environmental policy (about which New Orbit is very passionate), the future of entertainment and leisure pursuits, the evolving definition of social class structure, and any number of other things. 2018’s special was a look into the developing field of augmented and virtual reality. 2019’s special is coming up in February. We invite your suggestions for future specials at any time.

If you have a tale to tell, a point to make or a concern to share about the future, your words are of immense value to us. Submit your short stories and have your voice heard in this custom-built platform for uncomfortable little futures.
